Cookie Policy
Last updated: April 18, 2026
This Cookie Policy explains how Contextra uses cookies and similar tracking technologies when you visit or use the Service. By using the Service, you consent to the use of cookies as described below. You can control cookie preferences at any time.
1. What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files placed on your device by websites you visit. They are widely used to make websites work efficiently, to remember your preferences, and to provide reporting information to site operators. Cookies set by us are called “first-party cookies.” Cookies set by parties other than us are called “third-party cookies.”
2. Cookies We Use
| Cookie name | Category | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| ctx_session | Essential | Maintains your authenticated session | 30 days |
| ctx_csrf | Essential | Protects against cross-site request forgery attacks | Session |
| _analytics | Analytics | Tracks anonymized usage patterns to improve the product | 12 months |
| ctx_prefs | Preferences | Stores UI preferences such as theme and layout | 12 months |
| razorpay_mid | Payment | Razorpay fraud prevention and payment security | 12 months |
3. Authentication Cookies
When you sign in to Contextra via GitHub OAuth, we set a session cookie to keep you authenticated across page navigations. This cookie is strictly necessary for the Service to function. It expires when you sign out or after a defined inactivity period (typically 30 days).
These cookies do not track your activity outside of Contextra and cannot be disabled without preventing login functionality.
4. Analytics Cookies
We use privacy-respecting analytics to understand how users interact with the Service — which features are used, where users encounter friction, and overall usage patterns. Analytics data is aggregated and anonymized where possible.
Analytics cookies are optional and can be disabled in your browser or via our cookie preferences. Disabling them will not affect your ability to use the Service.
5. Performance & Preference Cookies
These cookies remember your settings and preferences (e.g., theme, dashboard layout, recently accessed repositories) to provide a more personalized experience. They are set only after you interact with the relevant feature.
6. Third-Party Cookies
Some features of the Service may involve third-party cookies from:
- GitHub — used during OAuth authentication flows
- Payment providers (Razorpay) — used to secure payment sessions and prevent fraud
- Hosting infrastructure (Vercel) — used for edge routing and performance optimization
We do not control third-party cookies. Please review the relevant third-party privacy policies for details on their data practices.
7. How to Control Cookies
You have several options for managing cookies:
Browser settings
Most browsers allow you to block or delete cookies through their settings menu. Note that blocking all cookies may prevent parts of the Service from working correctly. Refer to your browser's help documentation for instructions.
Opt-out of analytics
You can opt out of analytics tracking by adjusting your cookie preferences in the Service footer, or by installing browser extensions such as the Google Analytics Opt-out Add-on (if applicable).
Do Not Track
We honour browser-level “Do Not Track” (DNT) signals where technically feasible. When DNT is enabled, we disable non-essential analytics cookies for your session.
8. Cookie Retention
Cookie lifespans vary by type:
- Session cookies — deleted when you close your browser
- Authentication cookies — 30 days or until sign-out
- Preference cookies — up to 12 months
- Analytics cookies — up to 12 months
9. Updates to This Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements. We will post the revised policy with a new “Last updated” date. For material changes, we will notify you via email or a notice on the Service.
